D1NZ Round2, Mt Smart under the lights

Coming off the back of a second place finish at D1NZ Round1, I was feeling pretty good about coming into the first of the custom street circuit tracks on this years’ D1NZ schedule.  While it is an awesome venue for spectators, with seats that put you only metres away from the action, Mt Smart stadium has never really been the best in terms of a “drivers track”.  The converted car park has multiple surface changes, concrete walls that can suck you into them, and bad visibility at night.  And all of this is why they call it the “concrete jungle”.

D1NZ Round1 2014 Manfield event report

After a season away from the popular Manfield Racecourse in Feilding, D1NZ finally returned for the inaugural round of the 2014/2015 D1NZ National Drifting Championship. I’ve always held this track as my overall favourite in New Zealand, and now that Taupo is off the schedule I think most of the other drivers have the same feeling. The high speed entry combined with the banked corners through “splash”, and the tricky final corner hairpin all add up to a great combination of corners and close battles.

D1NZ Round 5 Christchurch

Even though it was two months ago, I still feel like I’m recovering from the only South Island stop on the D1NZ tour.  Mike Pero Motorsport Park just outside of Christchurch, is one of the longest drift sections and is known for breaking cars.

Taupo D1NZ Round4

The host track of last years final round, Ricoh Taupo Motorsport Park is often referred to as the “drivers track” of D1NZ.  The track is run in reverse direction, and is a fast, flowing, full throttle section that leaves my car chewing Achilles tyres in 4th gear the whole run.  Taupo also has the best pit area setup of the series, with proper garages and viewing from the corporate boxes above them.

Bay Of Plenty – D1NZ Round3 report

After missing round 2 of D1NZ at Whangarei due to injury, I couldn’t wait to get back behind the wheel at round3.  The custom built track at Mt Maunganui’s Baypark Stadium is one of the most fun courses on the calendar, bringing together not only speed and technical aspects, but also one hell of a crowd and an awesome atmosphere.

D1NZ 13/14 Round1 Hampton Downs

The 2013/2014 D1NZ season kicked off November 16th & 17th at Hampton Downs.  I was lucky enough to have some great help in the off season which can be seen in my last post, and that ensured that both myself and the car were both ready to go with no last minute rush jobs!  We used the first round as the reveal for our new Achilles Radial Drift Team liveries, which I really like the simplistic look of.

CRC Speedshow demos

Last weekend we were scheduled to put on 3 demos per day for the annual Speedshow event at ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane.  Unfortunately, the council had other plans and didn’t like the noise or smoke created, so they cancelled most of the demos only leaving us with one session per day.  We still put on a good show for the thousands of attendees, and made a little video featuring myself, Bruce Tannock, Gaz Whiter, and Dan Woolhouse.  Enjoy!
